Making Candles

I have always LOVED candles. Now that I am trying to live self-sufficiently, it seems like the perfect time to make my own!  I ordered Organic Beeswax from Amazon and it has arrived. I have my Mason Jars, wick, wax and I am ready to make some candles :)

We cut the wicks and attached them loosely to a twig to keep it straight. Then we used a double boiler to heat up the wax. Once the wax was heated to the right temperature (which we did not measure, we guessed) we added the desired essential oil scents, mixed the oils into the wax. We then, CAREFULLY, poured the wax into the jars.

After waiting until the wax was cool we trimmed the wicks and WHOOHOO we have candles!!!

Update:
We love our candles but the wicks do not stay lit at times. I think next time I will use a different gauge of wick, heat the wax using a thermometer to ensure the correct temp, and use wide mouth Mason Jars.  Other than that, I am quite happy!
