Building a Greenhouse

I have the most amazing husband. He wanted to make a greenhouse so we could start of veggies early, and built a 40ft x 20ft greenhouse, by himself.  For the floor he used a dumptruck full of gravel. Then covered the gravel with landscaping fabric, to keep the weeds out.

Frame: He logged, mill, cut, and constructed the greenhouse with wood from our property.

Inside: For the floor he used a dump truck full of gravel. Then covered the gravel with landscaping fabric, to keep the weeds out. He milled, cut and constructed raised garden beds. He filled the boxes with tractor-full after tractor-full of dirt. He put storage racks along the wall, with grow lights. He then added a wash bin for cleaning of the veggies.

Covering: He covered the greenhouse with 6-mil plastic sheeting.  After installing the sheeting, he decided it was not durable enough (as we get a lot of snow/ice). He then put down a layer of  6-mil String Reinforced Polyethylene Construction Film.

It looks amazing!!  Now bring on Spring :)

Honey Bees Arrive

So excited that we have decided to raise bees. My husband has been building an area for the bees, that will offer some protection from the cold/wind. He is also getting the hive ready.

We have opted to get hives that are constructed for winter weather. The polystyrene is supposed to allow for less heat loss during the winter.

The bees have arrived, my hubby is suited up and is transferring them to the hive. Quite a stressful process, I imagine that we will be more comfortable as we interact more and more with the bees. Until then full suit is worn!
